Alexander Payne studied at Stanford and received a degree in Spanish History and

Litterature. He also studied at the Salamanca University in Spain.

He has a degree from the UCLA

1991 The short film he presented at the UCLA,  The Passion of Martin, was presented at the Sundance Independent Film Festival

1996 Alexander Payne directed the film Citizen Ruth, his first long film. The actress of the film, Laura Dem, received the best actress award at the Film Festival in Montreal.

1999 With Matthew Broderick and Reese Witherspoon, Alexander Payne directed the film L'Arriviste

2001  Alexander Payne has also writen scripts for very important films such as Jurassic Park III directed by Joe Johnston, with Sam Neill

2003 Thanks to her film Mr. Schmidt, he received the Golden Globe for the best dramatic script, together with his colleague Jim Taylor

2005 Alexander Payne received again the Golden Globe Award, this time for his comedy film Sideways

2005 Filmmaker and Producer Alexander Payne was the president of the jury of the section "Un certain regard" at the Cannes Film Festival 2005.
