Place of Birth: Santurce, Puerto Rico
His parents: Gustavo and Fausta Sanchez Del Toro.
Benicio’s mother died when he was very young. The family moved to Pennsylvania.

Benicio del Toro studied  at the University of California in San Diego. Then, he studied at the Square Acting School of New York.

1984 One of his first appearences on TV was in the famous series Miami Vice.

1988 Benicio acted in the film Licnce to Kill, one of the James Bond’s stories where Benicio played the role of a villain.

1990 He acted in the NBC series Drug Wars, The Camarena Story.

1992 Benicio del Toro acted in the film Christopher Columbus: The Discovery

1995 He acted in the gangsters film the Usual Suspect, directed by Bryan Singer. He won an Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting actor.

1996 With Robert de Niro, he acted in the film The Fan, performing the role of a baseball player.

1998 The director Terry Gilliam offered him a role in his film Loathing Las Vegas.

2000 He played the role of the policeman Javier Rodríguez in the film Traffic. He won the Screen Actor's Guild Award for "Best Actor".

2004 He acted in the film 21 grams.

2005 Benicio del Toro is one of the actors that will participate in the Cannes Film Festival.

2010 Benicio Del Toro is member of the Jury at the Cannes Festival
