Mexican filmmaker

1987 Carlos Reygadas discovered his filmic passion after watching the films Andrei Tarkovski.

He studied Law in Mexico, afterwards he specialized in Armed Conflicts in London.  

He worked for the United Nations.

1997 Carlos Reygadas participated in a film competition in Belgium with his first short film.

1999 Carlos Reygadas began writing his first long film:  Japon .

2001 He began the shootings of his film Japón, which was presented at the Rotterdam Film Festival and received a special Camera d’Or award at the Cannes Film Festival as well as the Coral Award of the International Festival of Latinamerican Films.

2002 Death of the mexican actor Alejandro Ferretis, who had a role in the film "Japon". Ferretis was murdered in his house of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.

2004 Carlos Reygadas produced the film Sangre, directed by the young filmmaker Amat Escalante. It was presented at the Toulouse Film Festival as well as at the Film Festival of Rotterdam and the Film Festival of San Sebastian.

2005 The film Sangre will be included in the section Un Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival.

2005 The film Batalla en el Cielo, (Battle in Heaven) directed by Carlos Reygadas assisted by Amat Escalante will be in competition for the Palme D’Or at the Cannes Film Festival.
