Synopsis

Melquiades Estrada, an illegal immigrant from Mexico, is shot and buried in a shallow grave in the high desert of West Texas by border patrolman Mike Norton (Barry Pepper). Estrada's body is found and reburied in a local cemetery. After kidnapping the killer and forcing him to disinter the body, Estrada's best friend and employer, Pete Perkins, takes Norton with him as he undertakes a dangerous and quixotic journey into Mexico on horseback to return Estrada's body to his hometown as he had promised him.
