Holly Hunter participated in a school festival, and then decided to become an actress. At the age of 16 she was part of a group in Atlanta, and studied acting at the University Carnegie-Mellon of Pittsbugh.
1980 After graduating, she went to New York City, where she met playwright Beth Henley. Holly Hunter got roles in several plays produced by Beth Henley, such as Crimes of the Heart and The Miss Firecracker Contest.
