Gustav Klimt
Austrian Painter
Date of Birth: 1862
Place of birth: Baumgarten, near Vienna, Austria.
His father: a gold engraver. He lived in poverty.
Died: In 1918 from pneumonia. He was only 56 years old.

1876 Gustav Klimt entered the Vienna Public Art School.

1886 Gustav Klimt executed mural decorations for staircases at the Burgtheater and the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna.

1891 He became a member of the Co-operative Society of Austrian Artists.

1893 Gustav Gustav Klimt and Matsch were commissioned to decorate the ceiling of the Great Hall of the new University of Vienna.

1898 Gustav Klimt painted "Sonia Knips" at the Dumba Palace Music Room.

1900 Although unfinished, his first painting for the University of Vienna, "Philosophy" was exhibited at the Paris World Fair and won the Grand Prix.

1904  Gustav Klimt painted "Water Snakes"

1907 He painted a very erotic piece of art called “Danae”

1908 Gustav Klimt painted his most famous piece of art:  "The Kiss", in which he celebrates the attraction of the sexes.

1913 Gustav  Gustav Klimt painted "The Virgin".

1918 Gustav Kimt suffered a stroke. He died one month after, from pneumonia
