Lewis Hamilton releases the clutch and pumps the accelerator for Q3 of the qualifying session. He knows he will soon be crossing the timing line at a speed of approximately 260km/h (161 mph) and will have to hit the brakes to take the Saint Devote turn on second gear at 110 km/h before accelerating again towards the Casino. Like his Vodapfone McLaren Mercedes teammate, Heikki Kovalainen, he is keenly aware that earning pole position is key to winning the next day’s Grand Prix. He feels the pressure and he loves that feeling. He also loves his Formula 1 chronograph that can handle that pressure.
Meanwhile, Kimi Raikkonen, Formula 1 World Champion, is in the Ferrari pit garage, monitoring Lewis’ performance on the timing screen. He removes his TAG Heuer Speedway sunglasses and dons his helmet, adjusting the visor to be ready for action. The team engineer waves his hand and the heating tire covers are off in a flash. In just a few seconds, the Ferrari will come screeching out of the pit and Kimi has just one thing in mind: beating the other drivers in this qualification session, which means gaining those vital 1/1000ths of a second. Kimi realises how much he loves Monaco and wants to win it again. And it all begins now.
