Pablo Lobato
Director and producer of Accident, Pablo Lobato was born in 1976 in Bom Despacho (MG), Brazi, and currently lives in Belo Horizonte (MG). He studied photography at the Guignard school and is a Communication and Arts graduate, with specialization in Cinematography, from PUC-Minas and UFMG.
One of the founders of TEIA, a center for audiovisual experimentation and research in Belo Horizonte, Lobato has worked on many documentaries, short films and experimental videos as director, cinematographer, editor and screenwriter, and has undertaken photography interventions and video installations. Accident is his first full-length feature film.
Lobato’s films have received awards in festivals and art shows inBrazil and abroad. Among these are the documentary “Mira”, shot in Cuba, winner of the DirecTV Acquisition Prize at the 6th It ‘s All True – International Documentary Film Festival, and “Cerrar a Porta” (To Shut the Door), documentary, Best Film at the Mostra do Filme Livre, in Rio de Janeiro, 2004, among other prizes. Lobato also created the video installation “Artifícios do Olhar” (Artifices of Sight), during the Blind Spaces Residency, in Durban, South Africa, sponsored by the CEIA and PULSE art centers
His works have been shown in countries such as Mexico, Cuba,Germany, Switzerland, Portugal, Italy, South Africa, France, Argentinaand the United Sates. Lobato is currently developing the feature film project “Águas de Valls”, selected by the Programa Filme, in Minas Gerais, and finishing the 35mm short film “Outono” (Autumn).
