The sixth of nine children born to Prince Albert and Queen Victoria of England, Princess Louise, Duchess of Argyll was a feminist, a sculptor, and an amateur dancer, and was regarded by many who knew her as quite intelligent and witty, and also something of an enigma.
Family
Born Louisa Caroline Alberta, she grew up with older siblings named Albert, Victoria, Alice Alfred, and Helena, and with younger siblings named Arthur, Leopold, and Beatrice. In the early 1870s, Princess Louise married John, Marquess of Lorne (later the Duke of Argyll).
