Amat Escalante
Mexican Filmmaker

He was born in Barcelona, Spain but has lived most of his life in Guanajuato, Mexico and currently lives in Los Angeles.

This talented young filmmaker has studied motion picture editing and sound in the Centro de Estudios Cinematograficos de Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain and the Escuela Internacional de Cine y Television in Cuba.

2002 Amat Escalante’s first short film won the best short film and best director awards at the Newport Beach International Film Festival and the first place at the  Voladero Film Festival, Monterrey, Mexico. It was also presented at the Cambridge Latino Film Festival.

2003 Amat Escalante received the award of the Berlin Film Festival thanks to his short film Amarrados.

2005 The film Sangre, directed by Amat Escalante will be included in the section Un Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival. . It was also presented at the Toulouse Film Festival as well as at the Film Festival of Rotterdam and the Film Festival of San Sebastian.

2005 The film Batalla en el Cielo, (Battle in Heaven) directed by Carlos Reygadas assisted by Amat Escalante will be in competition for the Palme D’Or at the Cannes Film Festival.
